CSR stands for Corporate Social Responsibility. Yes, I know it is hard not to laugh when saying these words. Here at dirt.com we are dedicated to digging deeper on this topic. Ideally, CSR works to reward companies for doing the right thing and provides a vehicle for sincere companies to give back to community. Sometimes that works.

Honestly, though most businesses are still waiting to see if this is true. On the other hand, CSR has been criticised for simply greenwashing brands. This all comes down to transparency and business ethics.Business ethics. Yes, I know it is hard not to laugh when saying these words.

There are a couple successful pioneers who have done great work in this area. Some of most notable brands I can think of are The Body Shop, Patagonia and Ameircan Apparel. Other institutions with questionable motives that pour huge advertising dollars into this type of marketing are BP, McDonald's, Shell, GE and more. Other compaines doing the right thing on some level are actually Nike, Walmart, Starbucks and Kinkos.
